Winning for "Best Coffee in the City!" 11/21/2006

Okay, I'm on a quest. Most Seattlites probably are, actually, but I'm just going to pretend that I'm extremely original. I'm on a mission to find the city's best coffee. I'm not the most discerning coffee drinker, so you might not agree, but here's what I've found so far: 1. For a while, Verite Coffee was the winner. I think I was so used to Starbucks Sludge that their lattes tasted like something straight out of Italy for a while. I still think they're good, but not the best... 2. Next Panama Hotel topped the list. Their ambiance definitely had something to do with it, but their coffee also tasted pretty good. Last time I went there though the lattes were semi-warm and not very strong. 3. The top of the list at this point is El Diablo in Queen Anne. Their coffee is innovative, delicious, complicated, but seemingly effortless. They have incredibly unique concoctions like the Mexican Mocha, and their Cuban-style coffee is just dark, sweet, and intentional enough to send me over the edge. It's not a pretentious place that makes up new drinks by over-syruping. It's a cafe steeped in Cuban tradition, but that also caters to its Queen Anne clientele. The winner for now! more
