As a 20-something who has changed apartments as often as Britney changes hairstyles, I can safely say I have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly in terms of moving experiences. As far as the ugly ones go, using U-Haul has always been the common factor, which has led me to using and recommending Budget rental for any future moves, that is, if you don't have the cash for a moving service, which, come on, let's face it, is the IDEAL.
Allow me to list their offenses:
1.) I reserved a truck for 9am on a Sunday. It wasn't ready for use until 11:30am.
2.) That same truck broke down a total of 4 times in the freezing cold, AFTER we had completely packed it with all of our worldly possessions.
3.) There was no apology or credit to our account this incident--yes, we reported it. Several times.
4.) On another unrelated instance, I was almost charged for not filling the tank right after I had already filled it. I had to march the attendant back out the cab to show him what the gas gage looked like.
5.) When they tell you that a truck is available in Minneapolis, what they REALLY mean is that they only have a truck for you in Bloomington. That was unrelated to the first offense, by the way.
6.) Customer service does not exist in this company in any way, shape, or form. They don't even try to create the pretense of it.
Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT give U-HAUL your money. They will do something to you that rhymes with U and begins with an S.
