Expensive, Old, and Not So Fresh. 6/29/2005

Ichiban Japanese Restaurant is probably one of the worst restaurants I've been to. I've been there twice. The first time I went there was years ago, and my impression of it was it was extremely expensive. Then I went again not too long ago and it has gotten worse! First of all, the prices are above other Japanese restaurants in the area. I thought that the high price might be due to the "elegance" of the restaurant, etc. but the restaurant itself looks old: the furniture looks old and outdated, and the wall and the seat are discolored. Perhaps some time ago the restaurant was very fancy, but it just looks rather run down now. What's even worse is that the sushi wasn't even fresh. The entree I ordered came with slices of raw fish, but they didn't look fresh and they didn't even taste fresh. As a sushi lover, I rarely laaves any sushi uneaten. I found myself not able to finish the fish because it just tasted fishy/funny. What is funnier is that the wait staff carries on like it's a fancy restaurant; they just don't match with the look of the restaurant and the food. If one day they decide to offer fresh fish and renovate the place, they would be much better. But for now, I am staying far far away from them. more
