We hired Brian (owner) to build a retaining wall and fence in our backyard. He claimed to do one job at a time, and told us it was a 7-10 day job. Well, they started late, showed up sporadically and got the retaining wall finished but in almost four weeks. We had to call him three times to get him to finish the fence (after telling him that we contacted L&I and would consider our contract void). Three times he promised to show up the next day, then didn't come or call. I think the retaining wall is solid, but the fence looks like crap - one of the panels is sagging, two of the panels have VERY uneven spacing of the slats and there's a big gash out of one of the posts. Also, the fill dirt is uneven across the yard and two of the fence post supports (cardboard filled with cement) are exposed.
Despite our request to be "as aggressive as possible" to get the most yard we can, he had them dig the trench "to match the neighbor's fence" instead - giving up almost three feet (the retaining wall was only adding about twelve feet). He was very volatile about the "miscommunication" (e.g. yelling at the workers to take all their tools out of the yard - no wonder they quit mid-job!) and being pretty scary. When we agreed to pay for part of the labor to extend the trench (just to get the job done), he apologized for getting so upset. But after the job ended, he tried to stick us with additional costs that we didn't agree to. He was sorry about the delays and offered to give us a discount, but would only give us less than 5% of the job. We were annoyed and felt that going without our yard for our son for six weeks longer than he said was worth more, but we took it to be done with it.
Bottom line: this guy is unprofessional, and his word is no good. And the fence (which he personally worked on) looks like garbage. And dealing with him could not have been more aggravating/frustrating.
