I recently went to the so called Reidsville NC Animal Shelter. I was HORRIFIED. The so called "shelter" is a concrete slab up a hill behind a veterinarian's office with about 24 chain link runs, NO outside walls, and a roof that looks like it belongs in a park over a picnic table! In the winter they put tarps down the sides to serve as protection from the elements. Most of the animals had little to no water.
I talked with several people about the so called "animal shelter" and was told that there is an account set up somewhere with quite a large sum of money in it earmarked to build a real animal shelter but the powers that be use the money instead to recarpet their offices, buy new desks and chairs, ...
I also discovered that regularly the veterinarian that runs the "shelter",....well lets say they "clean house". They go through and euthanize every animal regardless of how long it has been there. I spoke with one lady trying to adopt 2 of the dogs and discovered she had been outright lied to on several occasions by the staff about the dogs. We later discovered the staff was just buying time so they could put the dogs down because they did not like them because they were hybrids. The dogs had been confiscated from the previous owner. The dogs unfortunatly did not live. I also found out that it used to be common practice for the animal control officers to take dogs they had just picked up to an area and shoot them on the spot! What if that was someone's beloved scared pet that happened to get loose??? I don't know if this is something they still do or not. Regardless this is a pathetic excuse for an animal shelter.
I am debating to give it 1 star or NONE! I guess I will give it 1 star, at least it does have a roof!
