Rowdy Cowgirl Barbecue is a new restaurant in Fremont, in the old location of the Stone Way Cafe. The folks there seem to be making a real effort to make good food for a reasonable price.
Most of the meats are smoked, including smoked: brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. The brisket sandwich is my favorite lunch (with sides). Smokey, meaty, BBQ sauce tangy but not too sweet. Not too much fat and no gristle to tend with.
The ribs come as a big solid slab of about 6. Heavily smoked, these things are a full sized meal.
There are a ton of sides to choose from. The cornbread muffins with honey are excellent. The BBQ beans with meat (pulled pork) in them are too. I like the greens: some pork mixed in and not too salty. The Seattle succotash, a kind of corn/bell pepper/other stuff salad is good for those who want something "lighter" with their food (i.e. not me).
At $8-10 dollars it is a little on the pricer side for lunches in the area (most are $6-9), though the meals do come with a drink. Also portions are substantial and the food is tasty. Well worth a visit.
