Well, I actually went here for dinner, but they have a $15 2-course brunch special with 3 drinks, so you should definitely go for that!
Essex is on Essex st. on the LES. It looks like it used to be a garage, or some sort of converted warehouse, but the decor is chic and classy. I went for dinner with friends and discovered that if you order a drink before 10pm, it's half price! Our waitress was so great, she let us slip in one more round at about 10:10. The food is homestyle mixed with latin (and maybe some Jewish influences, as the LES was a historically Jewish area many years ago). My friend had an assortment of potato pancakes that were so savory and good. Another had a beef dish, so I didn't try it, but it looked good! I had a great spin on mac&cheese. It had a citrus salad on the side and a sort of cous-cous too. Very good. And this is so random, but the butter that comes with the dinner bread is amazingly creamy. I'm sure brunch is excellent so I will be returning.
