Delicous Chinese with large portions of food & propoganda. 7/16/2006

Every entree I've had here so far has been really good if not wonderful, and I recommend trying the onion pancake appetizer before the meal. and crunchy wantons with dipping sauce are complimentary. If you're a vegetarian I also recommend requesting the orange ginger chicken with tofu instead, it gets my tofu stamp of approval, so delicious it almost makes me want to do a little tofu dance except my dancing sucks and I would not want to punish others around me in a confined space. Even my girlfriend who is not vegetarian loves it prepared that way. The atmosphere tends to be a younger set, and because they are open late they get a lot of business from the night life crowd, it's not uncommon to have to wait for seating in the middle of the night. Since so few places are open late, and this place is delicious, it's no wonder though. The walls are decorated with lots of Propaganda paintings from the Chinese Cultural Revolution, so don't be surprised to look up and see young girls wielding russian assault rifles while you dine. One caveat to all this however is the service is quite often less then stellar, in fact a few times some of the worst I've had in LA. They are usually understaffed for how much business they have so I can't blame the servers too much. On the upside the last time I went there service was great and highly punctual, but that was surprising because I had been so used to it being bad. However the food makes up for it, and I've never left not satisfied. On a final note try the chocolate covered pineapple for dessert, as interesting to look at, as it was delicious. more
