True to their slogan, O'Connor's Pub is a great little place if you are looking for that hometown Cheers kind of feeling.
I first started frequenting O'Connor's in 2000 when I relocated to Phoenix. It was the first pub/bar I visited and the warmth and friendliness from the regular patrons and employees kept me coming back.
This is about as authentic to a real Irish pub as you are going to get. Though it may seem rather small compared to the larger pubs, the atmosphere is warm and inviting. It is not uncommon to see the owner, Jimmy O'Connor, mingling with patrons and ensuring everyone is having an enjoyable time.
The drinks are reasonably priced and the bartenders are typically quite friendly. Many of them have been working there since I first began frequenting the establishment.
While they do not serve food, they do have happy hour in which the snacks vary depending on the day. They also have various drink specials including Fat Tire Mondays and Fighting Irish Fridays (Irish Car Bombs), and they have over 15 imported beers on tap.
Patrons have their choice between sitting at the rather large, wooden bar or in one of the many tables or booths. A large mural of the counties of Ireland covers an entire wall.
There is a pool table for those who like to shoot a few games and one or two other games are located in the back by the jukebox.
Every weekend O'Connor's hosts one of many fabulous Irish bands. The Clare Voyants typically draw a rather large crowd and the music is quite enjoyable. Sometimes patrons even begin to join in and dance traditional Irish dances.
One of the great things about O'Connor's is the clock they have which counts down to St. Patrick's Day though it took me a few visits to figure out exactly what it was counting down to.
St. Patrick's Day is a HUGE event at O'Connor's and if you have not celebrated at least one March 17th there, you are missing out. I recommend you go early otherwise you will spend a good part of the day waiting outside in a long queue. While there is typically no cover charge for the pub itself, they do have one on St. Paddy's day and it is donated to a local charity. Usually St. Mary's Food Bank. They also sell cornbeef and cabbage dinners in which the proceeds also are donated to charity.
New Year's Eve is another great evening to stop down at O'Connor's, but reservations are typically required for their annual dinner.
I also recommend their Halfway to St. Paddy's Day celebration in July and joining one of the many group trips they take to Laughlin, NV.
