We have been shopping at Tamra Dore's Bookstore since 1983 when she first opened. The store used to be in a smaller building across the street on Fry Road. The new building is on Fry Road 1-2 blocks North of Saums/Frantz Road on the east side of the street.
Katy Budget Books specializes in crediting you for your used, good condition paperbacks and hard bounds. You can then select other used paperback and hardbound books to purchase with your credit from used books. They also have a large selection of new books which are discounted. You also receive credit for each new book purchased and receive credit towards a free book after approx 10 books are purchased. All of these policies are explained by staff at the front desk.
Our favorite family event is author book signings. My kids have really enjoyed visiting with famous authors face to face. The authors are very willing to sign books but also take the time to speak to your child one on one, something that would NOT happen at a chain bookstore book signing event. My son and daughter had a private conversation with one of their favorite authors 2 or 3 years ago that lasted almost 1/2 hour. They still talk about this event fondly as it has influenced their views of writing and authors.
If you do not see the book you want or your child needs for school the book can be ordered for you and received within a few days. I don't know how many times we have called, had a book held and then raced over to pick up a required reading book for Katy Junior High, Katy High School and Katy Elementary. Tamra also coordinates Katy Junior High and Katy High School required reading book sales and other fund raising events for KISD schools.
Tamra and her bookstore give back to Katy and KISD therefore I always see them first for our families reading needs. Katy Budget Books also does an active exchange program for books on tape. I have been disappointed to find the large Mall Booksellers do not have the books required for school. I can always count on Tamra to have them available at a moments notice.
