Warning before you book a cut at Devachan: they do the dry cut. And it ain't pretty. I booked at an appointment with Keith after reading reviews of the salon and thinking, "Finally! A place that will understand my hair!" Don't happen. When I sat in Keith's chair, he gave me a consultation and we discussed my routine and my hair type. Then he started cutting it. Wait? No shampoo? No conditioner? No, that would come later. When I came back with a wet head, he moved straight on to styling it. No more cutting, the bits of snipping he'd done in the beginning was it. He proceeded to tell me how my curly hair routine should be every day, which was so complicated and lengthy, there was simply no way. I asked him to face reality and accept I had ten minutes to do my hair in the morning, to which he smiled as if it was the silliest thing he'd ever heard. Ultimately, yes - the salon is very devoted to the Cult of the Curl. Obsessively so, to the point of giving you a curl 'fro, even when it's gentle waves you're going after. I walked out of there looking like a permed poodle, still sporting split ends that I'd hoped would be cut off that day. Instead, I wound up making another appointment, and lots of apologies, to my regular stylist to get a result closer to what I wanted. more
