Home cooking in a colorful semi-dive 4/16/2006

Before R&K moved into town, Wanda's was a favorite place for anyone craving hot-plate diner type food. Since you can find home cooking elsewhere, pass up Wanda's for something a little more civilized. Type of food: Fried fish, chicken dinner plates; burgers, steak, etc. Yucky salad bar. Atmosphere: Semi-run down place that can reek of smoke. The twist with Wanda's is that on the weekends, they have a LIVE band playing and move the tables off the dance floor! Suddenly Wanda's is transformed into a C&W joint Hank Williams would be happy in. Prices: Pretty cheap; great deals on all you can eat catfish and steak nights. Avoid the steak - the catfish isn't half bad. Recommendation: A little too rough for a family night. It's the kind of place you could go after you've been working in the yard and didn't want to take a shower before eating. If you are interested in the live music, call to find out exactly when and if the band is playing. more
