We had a great time taking the kids on a train ride during their annual canned food drive. Usually this ride is too expensive for our family's budget, but this event gave us the chance to go.
Suggestions:
If you go, make sure you're on the river-side of the train! This is the side closest to the platform in Horseshoe Bend.
Arrive early. We thought we'd be far too early and people were already lined up to board when we arrived.
Don't take your own food as they want you to buy their munchies on the train. But to be fair, their hot dogs (and even their mixed drinks) are reasonably priced. They also sell out their remaining dogs for half-price just before returning to the station.
The open-air seating is nice, even in cold weather (blankets provided) and I think would be terrific in warm weather, but keep in mind that some kids will be scared by the lurch of the train combined with the somewhat low sides of the car. If you have a timid kiddo, be prepared for this possibility.
