My Son Loved Camp 8/6/2006

My 8 year old son attended 2 camps through the Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation. Both were "Tiger" camps designed for kids 7-9. My son went to Swim Camp and will be starting Basketball Camp tomorrow. Camps run from 9am to 3:30pm and have all kinds of activities besides their specific sport. For example, in Swim Camp, my son also had field activities like dodge ball and tag games. He got a 30 minute swim lesson and a 90 minute free swim time. There were also other group activities both indoors and outdoors. These camps were just around $100 each for 4-5 days. (Swim Camp was 4 days and Basketball will be 5). The counselors are great with the kids and keep things organized and disciplined, but still very fun. My son also did Cub Scout Camp last week and had a great time at that. Because of fund raisers and other available funds, Cub Scout Camp cost $10!! What a bargain for an all day camp. Finally, I would love, love, love for my son to do OMSI Science Camp. OMSI is the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry and offers lots of different day camps in geology, astronomy, chemistry, paleontology, etc. I know my son would really love Science Camp and OMSI is such a great organization, but the camps are $200 or more, and I just don't want to fork over that kind of money right now for a camp for 8 year olds. Maybe when he's a bit older I'll feel more like that money would be better investment in his education. more
