Cargo Cafe- THE former hangout 3/21/2006

Cargo has been around for as long as I can remember. It used to be THE place to hang out. All the "freaks" used to hang there because of the cool jukebox. Things have changed quite a bit there. Most former "freaks" don't come around anymore which might make the new clientèle feel comfortable. The outside has always been painted with interesting designs, from the patriotic design after 9/11 to the geometric designs now. The inside decor has changed. There was a giant painting of Rudy Guilliani, some demon dogs and a few other things I can't remember, all depicting 9/11. But enough about the decor. Now to the food. Their menu has always been an interesting eclectic American mix. One of the owners went to Johnson & Wales for his culinary education. (It's a fantastic program.) His training certainly shows in the menu. Their fried artichoke heart appetizer is to die for! Their salads are great and they've finally found someone who can make a great caesar dressing that isn't broken when served. In case you haven't guessed, they are veggie friendly. But beware, there is quite a lot of meat on the menu. There are daily specials and they always include a beef, fowl, and veggie pasta dish. It's a comfortable atmosphere. My favorite reasons for going there- the white paper tablecloths and the crayons. I can't draw but I have fun trying. more
