I was initially very excited when Country Vittles first came to town--Huntsville really needs some good "down home" cooking places that are a little less cookie cutter and a little more original. I noticed that they've gone "lunch only", with plate lunch specials every day. When I went, the breakfast menu was better than the dinner--the fried eggs were fresh, and so was the country fried steak and hash browns. The "vegetables" as sides, though, are the kind you can buy yourself at Halsey's or Sam's Club, and are not very good. The biscuits are also bought at Sam's, and not freshly made. The cornbread was also not good for this reason. Overall the food was okay, but a bit disappointing, and not at all like the "real" country food I was expecting. Prices aren't bad, but service was a little slow. It may be better now that they are trying to be lunch only. Definitely family friendly, and worth trying once to see if it's improved.
