Living in the Mission, it is no surprise that my dining out includes a lot of burrito joints and taquerias. What does this have to do with an Italian restaurant? Well, La Traviata is a wonderful surprise in a neighborhood known more for other cuisine. The first time I went to La Traviata, I loved everything about it. The place is so warm and inviting, the table settings are elegant, and it's a charming, quiet restaurant on an otherwise noisy, busy street. The food is wonderful, with generous entrée portions, delicious appetizers, and fresh salads. The menu is pretty extensive, and of all the dishes my favorite is the dark inked pasta with squid (so good!). La Traviata is charming, affordable, filling, and will have you coming back for more. A definite neighborhood favorite.
