Uptown Taste in a Small Town 3/26/2006

Ronnie’s Place is one of the better restaurants in town. Don’t let the outside deter you. It looks like a dump, the kind of place where you could get good country cooking with lots of grease and salt. It’s not like that at all. The shrimp bisque served on Friday and Saturday night is great. The gumbo is terrific. The sandwiches are also good. The lunch specials are 5.95 and are different each day. (Tuesday is meatloaf day.) Prices range from $5.99 for a bowl of soup to $24.95 for all-you-can-eat ribs. Go early or late for lunch or you’ll probably have to wait for a table. Parking can also be a problem. Some people park across the street at Davy Crockett’s Tavern, but I’m not sure if that’s legal. more
