Folsom Zoo is known for being a place where injured animals who cannot ever be released back in the wild, can go and live out the rest of their lives in a safe environment. Over the years this zoo went from being a free, tiny little place to one that now charges a small admission ($4 for adults, $3 kids) but it now absolutely fabulous with larger enclosures that are more natural looking.
We went during feeding time and it was great to see the animals being given such a variety of healthy foods (they eat a lot better than many low income people I know).
Peacocks and roosters wander through the zoo and the park. You can take a train ride. You can buy a snack at the concession stand. You have to visit the tiny gift shop and buy a little reminder of the zoo with a big heart!
