Roti: authentic and delicious Indian food 3/19/2006

This is the first strictly-Indian-food restaurant I've ever been to so please keep that in mind. But, that said, I found the food to be delicious even though many of the flavors were unlike anything familiar to me. They began with this wafer-thin peppered bread that is served with three unique dipping sauces. Each was it's own mixture of sweet/salty/??? and I enjoyed exploring this new landscape of tastes. As for the entrées, you can order them in escalating degrees of spiciness. I chose the medium, and that was about right. It was hot, but I wasn't sweating. One person I was with asked how hot the mild was and the waiter said, "It is not very hot, but this is Indian food." Implying that, if you're looking for standard fare, this is not the place. By the meal's end, we were full and content and felt we'd traveled much further than a few blocks from home. So if you are adventurous and looking for a unique dining experience, I recommend Roti without hesitation. The decor is calm and distinctly Hindu/Indian and they keep your water glass full at all times. more
