If you are on a budget, chances are you will be sitting in the cheap seats in order to take advantage of the phenomenal performances presented in any season at the Met. The cheap seats are scary for anyone who is afraid of heights like me. Ask to see a seating chart. A great thing to do once you have procured your tickets to the opera is to take a look around the Opera House - it may not grab you from the outside, but the artwork & costumes through the public spaces/lobby are quite beautiful and tell the interesting history of the Met. It is a thrill to watch the chandeliers rise before the performance. And the English titles are not as distracting here as at some other opera venues. A joy. more
