Chernin's has been in Chicago for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid they had a huge store on the North side of Roosevelt road where you could find a great selection of shoes with great prices.
My parents used to take my whole family down to buy shoes.
Now that place is gone. Chernin's now has branches all over the city, and the current incarnation of their store on Roosevelt is an outlet. It is still worth a visit. Self service, good prices, wide selection.
I have huge wide hard-to-fit feet and the last time I came in here I needed a pair of shoes pronto. I managed to find a great pair of sandals at a good price. Chernin's came through again.
