Freebird seems to be much appreciated in the Red Hook neighborhood - a used bookstore with a mellow vibe where locals can browse and read in comfy chairs. They have a fairly good selection in varied categories, plus some first editions by local authors. Freebird also occasionally hosts special evenings for readings by local authors. Red Hook is being increasingly populated by artists and young, creative professionals, and the store seems to connect with their interests. If you love used book stores, it's definitely worth the trek.
