Wide width children's shoes 11/30/2006

My kids have inherited our family's "wide foot curse". If you have normal feet, you know not of the "adventures in shoe shopping" a wide foot requires. I'm guessing most parents have heard of Stride Rite Shoes. Most of my friends associate Stride Rite with overpriced shoes. I'm very tight with a dollar and yet I feel Stride Rite is worth the price. I have shopped at three different locations, each one offered the same great service. They always measure feet. They give great advice on whether to go up a size depending on what you are buying. For example, when buying snow boots in the fall, they estimate rate of growth, winter socks, and child's age. I think my favorite Stride Rite feature is the record they keep of your child. This really helps in figuring out how fast your child's foot has been growing. My five year old is really into fashion. She has an extra wide foot. Last night we purchased some dress/casual school shoes. They were not her style of choice, but they were a great fit. The staff member went in the back and produced some silver flowers to make the straps a little more snappy. That tiny gesture made the rest of my evening much easier. I spent around $48 on her shoes and $32 on her sister's. Not as cheap as Wal-Mart or Target, but I know for sure that they fit well and will hold up beyond their time in these sizes. Worth the cost in my book. I gave it four stars because the price is hard to get past. Otherwise perfect. more
