We just happened to see Tango driving by and thought it would be fun to try something new. Tango serves authentic Argentinian food, something we'd never tried before. We weren't actually sure what Argentinian food would be like.
Charming old St. Peters is a good location, and the building has a comfortable and unique atmosphere. It was a little unclear whether we should seat ourselves or wait; but this restaurant is brand new, so we were willing to forgive the first few awkward moments. Our server was very friendly and helpful in explaining the menu items for ignorant Americans. They also have a photo menu, which is a good idea but needs some better pictures. As a matter of fact a few of them looked a little unappetizing. I ordered a spinach empanada and a ham and cheese tarta, and my husband ordered the centerpiece dish, the milanesa con pure.
Indeed when the dishes arrived they came plain and ungarnished, very much genuine home cooking and not looking like a restaurant at all. We were a little uncertain, but pleased to discover the food is very good. It's mostly fried, which may put some people off, but it didn't taste greasy at all.
Best of all the prices are VERY good. My husband and I ate dinner for about 12 dollars total.
Bottom line: before you go back to your favorite Mexican place next weekend, expand your horizons and try something new.
