La Tropicana has been in Lawrence for decades, and my family loves going there. The workers are friendly and it is family-owned and operated. We know all the people who work there and they recognize us and talk to us.
The food is delicious. Typical Mexican food is offered, with specials each night. There is a pleasant patio with a fountain, one of the few nice places to eat outside in Lawrence. The train tracks are across the street, drawing lots of children to watch and hear the train go by and perhaps annoying some adults. However, the trains are fairly rare. I certainly remember enjoying them as a kid.
Tropicana is, however, fairly expensive for Mexican food. The food is so delicious and the atmosphere so nice that you will forget how much it costs and just enjoy your meal!
