I've been a student at Seattle Tae Kwon Do for a little over 2 years now.
I'd been looking for an activity to help me get in to better physical health and had tried other Martial Arts schools around the city. I found many of them to be have a very aggressive "MMA" attitude to them. It was all about competition and being the best and to "Beat your opponent in to the ground". Other school's approached teaching Martial Arts from a point of fear. The attitude was that you were a victim waiting to happen and you needed to learn how to defend yourself. This was not an appealing way to learn MA.
Master Lee approaches teaching form a completely different angle. It's all about learning to be in the moment, not worrying about the past or future. I'm not doing her philosophy justice here and you must speak to her in person to fully understand. The school she and Master Richards have created here is free of the BS competition attitude and victim shtick you see at other school's. The Space and the students that come to Seattle Tae Kwon Do have a very good and unique vibe.
The classes combine intense warm up calisthenics and drills with sparring and forms practice of the upper levels. The first few weeks are physically a killer but after yo get used to them, you begin to see many positive changes both physically and in attitude as well.
