The San Diego Zoo is one of the biggest attractions of San Diego and it definitely lives up to its name. The actual zoo is huge and quite a hike if one plans on walking the entire area.
Despite being a "zoo," it's not all about caged animals. Many animals are left in an almost natural like environment with little to no barriers between people and animal. Wandering around, you might see some exotic birds walking side by side with you.
For those who don't have the energy or time to walk the entire zoo, it is highly recommended that you pay for the 40 minute bus tour in the beginning, which takes you around about 80% of the grounds. You can then hope on bus stops to take you to areas you want to spend more time at.
Most notable is the Panda exhibit. While the line is always long, don't let it deter you. It is continuously moving so the wait isn't too bad. The pandas are beautiful, and you might just be able to see the new baby!
