Commercial jets pass over Gravelly Point Park as they make their way to the runway of Ronald Reagan National Airport. Right off the GW Parkway north of Old Town Alexandria, the park looks out over the Potomac River, the airport, and several of the downtown DC monuments. There is a boat launch here as well as a bike path and plenty of 'picnic space'. My favorite is walking a little bit up the bike path, and laying on the hill to wait for the large airliners to rumble past. There's a faint noise, too, you can hear in the air after the jets reverse their engines....you just have to go check it out!
