Bowery Building Supply offers a lot of cheap (price, not quality wise) hardware and materials for construction. Lumber and sheetrock at decent prices in the middle of Manhattan are somewhat hard to find. But speak clearly because the guys who work there don't speak English too well (They are all Chinese).
