If you are around Wheeling West Virginia around the Christmas Holiday you may want to take some time and drive through the festival of lights. The Festival started at Oglebay in 1985 with just 5 displays as well as landscape lighting that covered the 3 mile drive. It soon spread throughout Wheeling. Today there are 72 displays as well as the landscape lighting that covers over 6 miles. Millions of people have stopped to see the lights making it a holiday tradition. This year they even have the Good Zoo open with lights. They have a pretty good laser show as well as a 35,500 light display on the zoo patio. This portion does cost extra. There are even Kangaroos right now at the zoo and a train display. There are light displays everywhere you look. As you drive through the festival you will be treated to animals and people glistening in lights as well as the peanuts gang. They ask for a $10 donation per car to see the lights. This is not a mandatory payment but you do get a pass good for the duration of the festival which runs in November and December. If you love Christmas lights and are in the area you just might want to take an hour and drive through. It is a site that one does not get to see everyday. Unless you live in West Virginia of course!
