while in high school? You might want to apply to the Carnegie Mellon Pre-College Program. Students of varying academic interests (music, art, drama, engineering) are encouraged to apply to the program. Basically, you spend your time taking two courses and hanging out with your friends. I worked as a counselor one year, and I can tell you that most of residents really really enjoyed the program. Some even decided to apply to CMU after coming!
