Living on the east end of Galveston, Kroger, Randall's, and Wal-Mart are all a bit of a hike. If you're not looking for exotic groceries, special brands, or amazing discounts, why not shop at Arlan's -- right here in your neighborhood?
The store here by UTMB and the other location on 25th Street stock all the major national brands of the typical supermarket products. The UTMB location has a pretty decent wine selection, while the 25t Street store has a deli.
Prices are more than fair; check your mailbox mid-week for a flyer with weekly specials. And -- especially with the high gas prices these days -- you can't beat Arlan's for the convenience. Think of what you'll save by not driving to the other end of town.
Downsides: The store by UTMB has a small parking lot, recently made smaller by trolley and street reconstruction. Customers habitually drive the wrong direction in the one-way lanes, and taxis stop in front of the doors, blocking traffic.
Upsides: All the basics are here, and a little bit more.
