Surprisingly good Mexican, festive fun in CT 8/22/2006

We went up to CT this past weekend to celebrate a milestone b-day for Father in Law. Meanwhile, when we get to Sister in Law's we find out it's actually HER birthday on the day of our arrival. Of course we had no card/gift, but she was planning to go to Margarita's Mexican restaurant in East Hartford. I have to confess that I was a skeptic, coming from Texas, land of good tex-mex. However, if the salsa was going to be any indication, this place would not disappoint- it was quite flavorful and even SPICY! The chips were thin and crispy and had a nice taste. I ordered the chile relleno- it was fantastic! and the portion was MORE than adequate. Hubby's fish tacos were also quite tasty. the corn relish was delicious as was the adobe chile aioli sauce! I had a frozen strawberry margarita that was tasty and fresh. We all also had dessert (it was a birthday). Our peanut butter pie was fabulous, but after sneaking a bit of the fried ice cream, i think that would have been a better choice. I was pleasantly surprised by both the food and atmosphere at Margaritas... atmosphere wise , it sorta reminded me of El Torito. I loved it! more
