I took in a '95 VW Passat for a wheel alignment and because my check engine light came on. I left the car there.
After several hours they call and say "this is going to take longer, we didn't realize the car computer was different for this model year and earlier." So they run around trying to find the right device to read the error code from the engine. They fail to find what the code is. They also can't do the tire alignment because they discovered a rather major problem with the steering rack and pinion. I tell them I don't have time for them to fix it as I need to drive somewhere the next day. They stil charge me for an alignment check and for diagnostic time...net service to me: virtually nothing, other than "hey, you need to replace your steering rack."
At least their garage is kept clean and tidy.
