The worst customer service... 10/25/2005

I recently got married. My wife and I didn't like either of our banks, so we agreed to go start over with a combined account at a new bank. I went to Amsouth, asked a few questions, and opened an account. They assured me that my wife could come by any branch at any time, sign a paper, and be added to the account. First of all, this was wrong- it isn't legal to do it this way (thanks to the Patriot Act). Both parties have to be there when the account is opened. We learned this the hard way the next day, when my wife came in and asked about signing the paperwork. First, they berated her for not knowing the rules. Second, they asked what her husband's name was so they could call the branch I went to (the downtown branch) and inquire as to what's going on. They then spent the next five minutes giggling inanely at a "guy named Stacey" and asking my wife if she was "sure that was my name" and "are you kidding?". They had it on speakerphone when they finally did call, and the other branch also made fun (since when is Stacey girls only? There was five boys named Stacey in my school). For that matter, since when is it good business practice to make fun of a customer? Needless to say, if they had this little respect for customers, we didn't want to do any serious business with them. My wife called me, I went by the bank, they *had the gall to verify the whole thing and snicker about it*, and I closed my account. I don't think I've been so insulted by anyone since I was in grade school. If you want customer service or a bank that respects you or your value as a customer, move on. more
