I just love this shop. It isn't close to Seattle nor are the prices much better than going to the REI, but I really like the owner there.
He will do literally anything for you and is so friendly and quick. He actually has a van he takes to schools to fit kids with skis and boots. And when you go there, he'll throw in just about anything that a little person needs.
Rentals aren't expensive. Just $129 gets you boots, bindings, skis and a helmet and he'll throw in some gloves too and some waterproof cream or whatever else he just got in.
The equipment is decent and while you are there, you can get things like the $2 Vuarnets I found stuck in a box there. Give it a try.
