If I can avoid it, not dealing with Hertz again! 8/10/2005

This ties into my review of Roger Beasley Mazda . This Hertz is their on site car rental place. I get a free loaner car with warranty repairs. I had previously rented several cars on different occasions since buying this new Mazda last year, and never had any complaints ( except for long wait periods for the Hertz reps to show up to the counter ). This last time, when I handed the clerk my Wells Fargo Debit Visa Card, she explained that they no longer take it for the $50 refundable deposit they require and that I needed to use another car. Well, I didn't have another one or the $50 cash she asked for, so I asked if I could write a check instead and she could just tear it up when I brought the car back. She said that she couldn't' take it. I explained that i had never had a problem before and if there was anyway to waive the deposit since I had been coming there for years and rented several cars from them before. She still said no. I told her I needed a car for work that day and I would like to speak with her manager. She called him and he said I could fill out and application to "qualify" to have the deposit waived - that was a joke !! They require to have a copy of your phone bill ( which for some odd reason I had in my bag ) and they verify your employment and phone number and address. I think I have gotten credit cards easier than this before!! It took almost an hour to get a rental car. I was approved for the no deposit , but it was a big waste of time and energy. It was ridiculous and I am almost happy that the warranty will run out soon so I won't have to deal with Roger Beasley Mazda or Hertz. I will say that the Hertz clerk was very nice and tried as hard as she could to get me the car. more
