An enjoyable UU church. 8/9/2005

As with any church, if you're a permanent member you will almost always find the church a warm and welcoming place. Not being a permanent member due to frequent moves, I have not felt as welcome as I had hoped. The sense of community seemed to be very strong there among members, but it was hard for someone like me who was just looking for a congregation to join for only a couple of years to feel at ease. That said, I enjoyed the church's services. I enjoyed Reverend Ed Brock's sermons as well as the lay-led services. All were spiritually nourishing and left me with a lot to think about on my own. The services flowed well and were enjoyable to attend. Additionally, non-traditional events are common, with home potlucks, discussion groups, interest groups and youth groups making the church even stronger. The RE program for the little kids (preschool-elementary age) was excellent; my children always had fun and wanted to come back. I enjoyed their art projects and loved hearing about the books they read. My only wish is that they had RE year-round, but due to staff shortages this has not been possible. The email bulletins are extremely helpful in keeping up to speed in the church's happenings. Members also receive a bulletin mailed to their homes that has more of a "church newsletter" format. EUUC is a great Unitarian Universalist church that would be a great fit for newcomers intending to attend regularly for a long time. more
