We decided to visit Fort Sumpter during the beatourist promotion in Charleston that is offered every January. We enjoyed the boat ride, and the brief tour overview pointing out the various islands and other landmarks along the way. Although Fort Sumpter is fairly barren compared to other historical forts and places, its significance lies in the origination of the Civil War. The tour guide at the fort was superb, and greatly added to our understanding of the events that occurred at Fort Sumpter and Fort Moultrie. The museum was interesting to tour, and the rest of the grounds were also fairly informative.
