They Saved My Dog's Life 8/12/2005

My vizsla pup came down with parvo at 9 weeks. Thanks to their excellent around the clock care for 5 grueling days-he made it. This is not your "touchy, feely" kind of clinic. These people are all business regarding your pet. The upside is your pet will probably receive the best care anywhere in the Midwest for a variety of difficult to treat illnesses, the downside is the cost, and a somewhat impersonal attitude by much of the staff. We were only able to visit our dog once during his entire stay. And the initial vet who diagnosed our dog unflinchingly told us that the two previous dogs brought in and diagnosed with parvo were put to sleep because their owners were unable to pay for treatment. Fortunately, our bill came in at $150 under the initial estimate. An online search also revealed that my bill was a lot less than other people who had taken their parvo stricken pups to comparable research universities for similar treatments/lengths of stay. They also have 24 hr/7 day a week emergency care. If your dog has a run of the mill injury during the day on a Saturday or Sunday-I would probably take him/her to a Banfield clinic instead-their initial office visit starts at about $40 vs. $175 at the U. But if you have something really out of the ordinary, I would probably skip the local vet and go straight to the U-it's where all of your pet's diagnostic tests are likely being sent anyways. more
