Feeling like I was taken advantage of. 7/30/2015

Brought my car in to get brakes checked, decided to have my timing belt replaced. I was quoted 653.00, I asked all the questions I thought were possible is that tax included, is that mechanic fees, is that everything done for that price. The gentlemen on the phone said let me put you on hold to double check, he came back on and said yes that's the total cost. I said OK go ahead and do the work if that's the final amount. I get a call 2 days later and the mechanic said the tension something? Didn't come in do you want to wait until Tuesday so I can put the new one on or do you want to put the old one back on, I said I don't mind waiting. I will take responsibility for not asking all the questions but I will also refer you back to the beginning where everything is included. I said no to all the extras oil change, new air filters. Imagine my surprise when I go to pick up my car and the total cost is $950.00. I had a minor heart attack the mechanics explanation was I called you and told you, I said no you called me and I quote the tension arm(?) did not come in with the rest of the parts it had to come from somewhere else so it won't be here until Tuesday. Never once, I'll repeat NEVER ONCE did he say this is an extra part it was not included in the price. So u had to remind him of the conversation, his answer was I must not have explained myself very well. So his lack of communication cost me $300.00 extra dollars, we'll he did go back and removed the diagnostic fee and shop supplies cost, he credit me $70.00. I'm not complaining about the work done so far my car is running great but if each person is charged an extra $300.00 everytime they pick up their car well that's a nice bonus. more
