....nothing to say about the Malone Academy, never been there. I'm writing about the restaurant behind the dance academy building.
The weird house-like structure used to be a place called the Red Oak Steakhouse. It did pretty decent business from what I could tell, but it rolled over and died sometime before 2009, a victim of the economic implosion.
That whole mall has gone through phases; it was once an upmarket place, now it's a second -string joint with a 99 cent store and a Burlington Coat Factory. At one point in the early 2000s they had a bookstore using the Crown Books name; they were liquidating stock.
It's a fringe area; if you follow the parking lot to the bottom of the hill, you can either turn right and go on the 8 freeway, or left and tool on down Alverado Road, which ends on the outskirts of San Diego State.
