Why Would They Allow This! 1/8/2012

I just recently joined the club, and I totally agree with the Truth and RichardBGraham comments. The club is clean and has great team exercises, however there are so many rules; one of them is to sign up for the cardio machines before use (Rule 1). The problem with this is that sometime members sign up to use the machines and they don’t use them, thus members that want to use a machine can not. No First Come First Serve. It appears the management does not speak against bullies and discrimination. One early Saturday morning, I got to the club early and wanted to try the aerobic class that just started, I had my boots on with my workout clothes and my tennis shoes in the bag since members are not allowed to wear their workout shoes outside (Rule 2). I went straight into the aerobic class thinking I could just change my shoes and don’t miss a couple minutes of fun. While I was changing into my workout shoes, I got a surprise of my life. The instructor literally came from the front to the back of the room, grabbed my bag and shoe and THROW ME OUT of the room while yelling over the microphone speaker not to bring my personal stuff to the exercise room (Rule 3). There were staff members at the front desk watching the incident, and nobody said anything. And oh, I forgot to mention that this rule (Rule 3) wasn't posted or displayed anywhere. You would think it will help new members to know what the unbreakable rules are before they are harassed. I went to the locker room to put my personal stuff and cried a little, then went back to the front desk to share my frustration with the staff members, and a lady who I later found out to be the manager said that the instructor is always harsh, and she doesn’t like it when people bring stuff to her class, and the club supports this. I felt like she is indirectly telling me that the club doesn’t care if you are bullied. More importantly, I felt so humiliated and discriminated on because of my brown skin or black. I have witnessed the same situation where people of opposite skin color brought their personal things to a class and no one raises an eyebrow and this includes instructors. I approached the front desk once again after my workout to ask about the procedure to report this incident so that I can get a closure. The lady who was at the front desk at this time called the Manager who happens to be one of the ladies who witnessed the incident, and was also one of the staff members I earlier shared my frustration with (who couldn’t help). This time, she told me that she talked with the instructor, and that the instructor apologized to her. Well, for a minute, I got a little confused because an apology should be coming to me, and not to the club manager or the club. Moreover, she mentioned that the instructor’s class is hard, the instructor is Harsh… and so forth. I felt like she was giving me reasons to stay away from this instructor’s class because of the reasons known to herself or the club. more
