Scary Brake Story 8/29/2011

My wife and I had her brakes, calipers and rotors replace by Golden Rule in April. Over this last weekend they started grinding a little so I drove into Golden Rule on Pines Saturday morning and explained the situation to the manager. Instead of listening to what was happening he was more interested in protecting Golden Rule against any warranty claim and told me there was no way that they could look at it that day and had me schedule an appointment. On the way home the problem seemed to go away. Taking her car to work Monday morning so that I could drop it off for the afternoon appointment the brakes started grinding and pulsating violently. I attempted to drive her car to the nearest Golden Rule but it felt like the car was going to seize up so I stopped at the first shop I saw (Meineke) for them to look at when they opened that morning. When Meineke called back they told me that the caliper on the driver side had not been bolted down correctly and was falling off the vehicle. When I asked if it was safe to drive it to Golden Rule he told me I was lucky that I made it as far as I did as because the caliper coming off would have been like putting a stick between the spokes of a bicycle. Taken to extremes one could say I was put in a life threatening situation this morning. Mieneke told me that the caliper and pads needed replacement and that the rotor should be turned. I called Golden Rule to explain the situation and again was greeted with the same ?it?s not our fault? attitude as before. After I told the manager directly ?you are not listening to me? he stopped trying to protect the store and paid attention to the problem. He then went to Mieneke with new parts, self-performed the labor and fixed the vehicle with exception of the rotors. I was told by Mieneke that if I felt any pulsing with the brakes that I was to drive the Golden Rule and have them address the problem because the manager did not want to pay Mieneke to do the work. They don?t appear to be a problem yet however the brakes seemed to be ok before I left for work this morning as well. Overall I am extremely dis-satisfied with Golden Rules customer service. They seem to care more about making money than they do about their customers driving a safe vehicle. On the flip side I would take my car to Mieneke on the corner of Division and Riverside anytime. more
