Cow pasture golf at its finest.
Played this past weekend...................Big mistake. Course is up for sale so they have cut back on a few things like lawn mowing and weed killer. The fairways were about 20 yards wide and the grass was 2 inches tall. After that the first rough was about 15 yards wide but 10 to 12 inches tall! and then the 2nd rough was over three feet high. If you missed the fairway your ball was history. Trouble is if you stayed on the fairway your ball was easily lost in a field of little white flowers that were blooming everywhere. Not much money being spent here in maintenance. The greens were in beautiful shape..................go figure. This course floods every year and it shows. it used to be one of the nicest courses in the valley but it is now in a terrible state of disrepair. Even the sign at the entrance announcing Carnation Golf Course is covered in grass over three feet tall. I wonder how many people have driven by the course because they couldn't see the sign? We showed up in time for twilight rates $15 for 18 holes which is a bargain but we left after only 9 holes and went to Twin Rivers to go hit a bucket of balls instead. 25 years ago I learned to golf on this course and it was such a gem. As I drove away yesterday and saw the grass covered sign in my rear view mirror I was saddened to realize my little gem is now just a piece of coal.
