To set the background: I am a 23-year old female college student & full-time employee who has been receiving dental care regularly and has never had any dental disease or problems (including cavities).
I went to Dr. Doom after my mom switched us to a new insurance and Dr. Doom was the only one that had an appointment open who would take my insurance. I went in for a routine cleaning. The staff was very unorganized upon my arrival. The waiting room was crowded and uncomfortable. Although I arrived 20 minutes prior to my appointment time, I waited over an hour to be seen. In that time, I saw several children go back with the dental hygienists only to be escorted back to the waiting room within minutes, crying. She refused to see them because they were scared and crying. (Just a hint: taking children away from their parents and treating them coldly WILL make them cry).
After being escorted back, I was put in a chair that was not separated very well from any of the other patients. The dental hygienist asked me to lean back and began working on the cleaning. Several times during the procedure I began to choke (not sure if it was the angle she had me at or the suction not being placed correctly, but I have NEVER had that happen before). I had to stop the hygienist because even after visibly having issues, she refused to acknowledge my discomfort. She began working again on my teeth after telling me ""to stop so she could finish, "" at which point the pain became so bad that I had to fight back tears. By the time the doctor came in to take a final look at my teeth, I had tears streaming down my face. The doctor was actually gentler than the hygienist, but her hands were still rough in my mouth.
After the whole procedure was done, I got in my car and cried. I have NEVER had such a painful experience at the dentist and finally realized why some people fear them. It's because of doctors and hygienists like those at Dr. Doom's office! I feel terrible for the kids that are forced to go there.
One word of advise: DON'T DO IT.
