Not what I was lead to beleive 12/20/2011

A nicely selected wine list (the by the glass was especially appreciated for the style of restaurant), a creative cocktail list, and a slightly adventurist beer list. The service was excellent. 4 courses - First: The baby octopus was octopus but not baby and though prepared adequately was mismatched with the polenta gruel rather than a nice creamy polenta. The rapini saved this course. Second: On the brighter side the Majestic House Salad was very nice and quite flavorful. Actually quite a treat. Should there ever be a restaurant crawl of Old Town a stop here for the House Salad should be on the list. Third and Fourth: Sauteed Green Beans side and the NY Strip. The green beans were mush, significantly overcooked, over seasoned, over buttered, and over salted. The lardons though were nice. The NY Strip though prepared as perfectly as ordered, medium rare, was a Flat Iron and not worth the $27. This also was over salted though. I will say if it had been advertised as a flat iron, and offered at a lower price I would not have been as off-put. I would have already expected the vein of gristle and cut into the steak differently, but even so for the money would not have ordered it. The hand cut fries were not exactly what I anticipated. I will not return even though I thoroughly enjoyed the salad mostly due to the mis-advertised steak. I really find it hard to imagine that customers cannot tell the difference between the two cuts. I also need to find out if the Old Town area prefers overcooked vegetables and too much salt. But again, the service was excellent. more
