Incompetent and Unproffesional 11/4/2011

We had Garry's Gutter Service do a repair of one gutter and our fireplace. This company is a sham of a company. Completely dishonest. Overpriced and only Interested in up selling. They have no interest in truly helping. They do not accept responsibility for their mistakes. We asked them to repair a fireplace that had a Heatolator in it - I had a young assistant at home to deal with them and they said to him that it was scrap metal and in order for the fireplace to work they had to remove it and they threw it out. The cost of replacement is $5,000. They claimed they never heard of a Heatolator. Upon returning home and discovering what occurred Rather than accept responsibility and apologize - they demanded $800 for their labor and Gary turned it around on me and called me a thief and a scammer. In researching this with other people in the industry and with real estate agents one comment kept coming up. ""While its not unusual that a new homeowner might not know what a Heatolator system is, a person repairing chimneys has to know what it is and advise the customer accordingly. After all How many things do you think can be put into a fireplace in the first place? There are only 2 or three things to begin with - its not like its a complicated business. If you are in the business you must know what it is"" Gary's method of dealing with his incompetence, ignorance, greed and gross negligence is to immediately try and make you feel guilty as if you did something wrong. A contractor should be looking out for his customers best interest or at the very least should provide them with correct information so that they can make a reasoned and informed decision. I would avoid this company at all costs - it really is a shameful company and you will only get hurt. more
