A friend of mine asked me to help him sell an engagement ring he no longer needed because my husband's best friend is a GIA-certified jeweler. He gave me both the ring and the receipt for his purchase from Jewelry Exchange.
The price per carat he paid for the N/I1 diamond was about Rappaport prices (any good jeweler should show you the Rappaport market pricing sheet if ask for it) but when he showed me the ring, I was horrified. It was definitely not what I would've expected from an N/I1. Visible black flaws in several spots. When the GIA-certified jeweler looked at it, he said that it was nowhere close to an N/I1 stone. He would grade it at a P/I4. BIG DIFFERENCE!
The jeweler also commented that Jewelry Exchange is known for their crappy stones and how they present them as something better. They are not GIA-graded and will present their stones as whatever they want. Not honest at all!
My friend is getting offered 20-25% of what he paid for it now. Nobody wants to buy it - jewelers, private sales, etc. Stay away from this place!
